NextPlans is pleased to introduce NextFiles, a cloud based storage and exchange service designed specifically for the A/E community. NextFiles allows architects and engineers the ability to store, exchange and comment on information, and utilizes several industry specific features to provided added value to the architectural or engineering client.
"There are a lot of cloud services out there right now, but I have not seen many geared specifically to the A/E community," said Zane Sharpe, Vice President of NextPlans. Already providing a full service document management platform, NextPlans created NextFiles at the request of several A/E firms that were collaborating with General Contractor's on GC's NextPlans site. Sharpe adds, "We were approached by several firms after they were introduced to our mobile app through a General Contractor's NextPlans site. Design firms wanted to store, exchange and utilize the iPad for CA work but they didn't necessarily need the administration, the amount of users or the reporting of the NextPlans platform."
The NextPlans product development team began working on the platform while employing the feedback of several of the largest design/engineering firms in the Southeast. "We concentrated on specific needs in this industry," said Chris Perkins, Director of Product Development for NextPlans. "The feedback we received was that there still needed to be an opportunity to order prints through the platform, and of course, the NextPlans iPad application would need to be available to NextFiles clients for Construction Administration work."
With NextFiles, the client sets up their print vendor in the portal so when a print order is submitted, the specified print vendor receives access to the files and additional notes. NextFiles also now allows access to the NextPlansMobile iPad application. AE firms can access their document portal via their iPad and perform CA responsibilities to include document markup and annotation on a jobsite using a single platform and service. Chris Perkins said "We will continue to work with our clients to ensure NextFiles stays focused on offering the latest technology, catering to engineering and design."

With NextPlansMobile your iPad is your gateway to view, store and annotate the documents you access on the NextPlans project delivery system.
Eric Benson, lead developer of the app and architect of NextPlans states, "The evolution of construction document distribution and management continues with the iPad. NextPlans’ development team reviewed several construction industry related studies that indicated that Construction firms justified the purchase of iPads and other tablet devices specifically for field personnel. Chris Perkins added, “As we continue to develop releases for our app, we will prioritize them around the needs of our clients’ and their most mobile personnel.”
